Bias isn’t always favoritism. Sometimes it’s baked into our routines and habits that we stop questioning it.

Maybe you promoted someone you went to school with without fully considering a stronger candidate from another department.

Maybe you dismissed a teammate’s good idea because they tend to question your approach in meetings.Maybe you’ve always asked the same two people for input because they’re quick to agree and easier to work with.

It feels harmless because it feels familiar. But familiar doesn’t always mean fair.

Good leadership isn’t about being bias-free (we all have them). It’s about being bias-aware.

Because when you pause and challenge your default thinking, you create space for better decisions, stronger teams, and a more inclusive workplace.
