2021 is going to be a make-or-break year for many small businesses, and as you know it's no good trying to carry on by putting a sticking plaster over a hole in a leaky bucket and hoping that things are going to get better on their own because they won’t.
But I believe with all my heart that it’s going to be the sole traders, and the small and medium sized businesses that are going to get economies back on their feet, rebuilding communities in the process.
In 2020 the pandemic hit so many of us so fast that there was very little time to step back and think about doing things differently or to put a new strategy in place.
I've spoken to a lot of people who are doing their best to keep going whilst feeling like they’re on a never-ending roller-coaster, doing their best to pay salaries and other bills on the one hand and feeling totally powerless and overwhelmed every time there’s a new announcement around lockdown restrictions on the other. I’m sure you’ve had similar conversations with those around you.
Blame and Shame
When things go wrong the blame game starts and the Pandemic resulted in me throwing all my emotional intelligence training to the wind in February and March 2020 when one by one my international workshop contracts were cancelled , and anyway there was no way I was going to get on a plane!
My next blame station was the organizations I should have been working with because the majority of them didn’t want to work online.
By about May that blame turned into shame.
Shame about money.
Shame about my inability to persuade my clients to work with me online.
And asking myself the question time and again, what’s wrong with me.
When you get to that point you’ll know that it’s a very slippery slope towards overwhelm, and if you've been asking yourself that question or similar, you need to stop right now and ask yourself a different type of question.
Ask a different question
The question I asked myself was ‘what do I need to let go of’ because if you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you’re going to get what you always got, and it’s simply not business-savvy to use hope as your success strategy.

So what does this have to do with re-booting your money mindset?
When you’re trying to do too much at once your brain gets confused. When you’re using the sticking plaster approach to your business there’s no clarity. Your brain likes structure, it wants a process to follow, a clear goal, a clear outcome to work towards. And that is why it's so important from a money mindset perspective to ask yourself a question along the lines of what you need to let go of? Or which door do you need to close? Or which beliefs do you need to release?

Remember that if you were running a successful business before you can do it again, even if it means starting over. So congratulate yourself on what was and close the door on the past. You still have the skills, the knowledge and the experience to do what it takes, and even though you may think you’re not the same person that you were in 2020, the biggest change is likely to be that you are wiser …
You still have the grit, the determination and the commitment. Be fab-you-lous, because you are.
